38 hours to go

38 hours to go before I toe the line at Army Marathon, just two weeks after I finished in 3:21:26 at Austin Marathon. Mentally and physically, I think I’m ready, but part of me is second guessing myself. Still, I can’t wait to run another 26.2 miles for fun. It’s really the only time I get to myself without my husband or kids. I actually am looking forward to leaving my house at 4am to make the long drive to Killeen! The kind folks at Army Marathon are kindly allowing me to pick up my race packet on Sunday morning, so I’ll be heading out early to meet them in Killeen. A point to point course, with a rolling downhill elevation, so looking forward to it!!

I worked at my church again this morning and was lucky enough to get in four “shakeout” miles on my treadmill once I got home.

Pumped for marathon #3!

Pumped for marathon #3!

Afterwards, I loaded up the crew (kids and the dog) for a trip to Bruno’s favorite off leash trail at Auditorium Shores in Austin. Since tomorrow is a “do nothing but sit on my butt all day” kind of day, I needed to wear out the dog and kids. They loved dipping their toes in the water and watching “big brother Bruno” play with the other dogs.

A quick stop at P.Terry’s Burger Stand for burgers and fries for the kiddos and our trip was complete! Lucky for me, the kids go to bed at 6:30, and I’ll be able to catch up on Real housewives with red wine after a really busy day.

Until the next run,

I Needed That

image

On Mondays and Wednesdays my three year old son attends preschool, which allows me to run on the treadmill while my daughter naps. I woke up at 7, feeling refreshed from going to bed earlier the night before and grabbed my much needed cup of coffee. An hour and a half later, I was on my way to drop Jackson off at school, so that I can get to “work” on time. I use work loosely because I am a stay at home mom, however I work at my church Wednesdays and Fridays from 9-12 and at a nearby church on Sundays 8-1pm. Not many hours, but it’s still nice my kids can come with me and socialize with other kids. Both my kids love coming with me, but I just had Reagan today.

After work, Reagan took a nap and I headed straight for my treadmill. A very light speed session, which I just what I needed. I warmed up with a 8:11 mile, 6:24 mile, 4:05 .5 mile jog, 6:17 and a .5 mile cool down. Followed that with Whole Foods Whey Protein shake and I was good to go. It felt great to run fast after resting since Austin Marathon, and I can’t wait to race this weekend! Hubs just got home with a bottle of red, that’s all I have for now.

Until next run,
Julia

Taper Madness

Taper week sucks. Tapering, running a marathon and then tapering and runningΒ anotherΒ marathon in a span of two weeks really sucks. I’m itching to run, but can’t. I am interested to see how I will feel come race morning this weekend.Β

ImageThat’s right folks, a thunderstorm is predicted!! I really hope the marathon gods are playing tricks on me for now. Since I ran an easy 4 yesterday (7:41 pace), I’ll do a light speed session tomorrow of 2 x 1600 and call it a day for a total of 4. I really miss putting in some 50+ mile weeks and it’s only been 3 weeks since that’s happened 😳 With a half marathon on the calendar at the end of March, I hope to be working on my speed. With two toddlers, I am forever grateful for my Norditrack treadmill. It has been my saving grace, and I absolutely have grown to LOVE treadmill running. Ill have to devote a whole post for my love of the treadmill, and hopefully you too will grow to accept what many dread!
